Battery Runtime
A quick and admittedly not-too-scientific look at battery runtime.
<soapbox> Not “life”. Battery life is life-and-death – can it be charged or not. Runtime is how long it will power the laptop once it has been charged. </soapbox>
I followed the same procedure I used in testing my X1 Yoga Gen 4 and X1 Yoga Gen 5: let things run long enough for the “gas gauge” to settle – usually after the charge level had dropped by one or two percentage points. The results for those Yogas were eye-popping. The P1, not so much. No surprise, really. There’s a lot going on with this machine: two SSDs, reasonable RAM (16GB for most of the tests below), UHD touch OLED display, and a hexacore CPU. The numbers seem fairly consistent with my seat-of-the-pants take that it’s a 6+ hour machine. I did not make absolutely certain that there weren’t things running in the background (don’t think so…) but will revisit and see how these times hold up.
